  • Great adaptation

    As someone who's read all the Vampire Chronicle novels w/Lestst as the protagonist, this is a great intro if you skip the first book, like I did. Some hated Tom as Lestat but Tom played the self indulgent, egomaniacal vampire that Lestst is & when I read, I still see him as Lestst in my mind doing/saying the words/actions on the page but equally, or more so, Pitt embodies the self hatred nature of Louis spot on. I read Anne Rice( the author) preferred the actor in Wueen of the Dsmned but the movie didn't do that book justice. The complexities within and all the subplots, flashback, etc could never be contained in one 2-3 hour movie.

    Anne Rice’s American Gothic story IS a must read, discovering this series has been an incredible experience. The film is equally fantastic to watch, which I highly recommend!! The AMC’s version is a watered down for the “woke” folks who have no taste.

    Interview with the vampire is a true modern horror classic. Brad Pitt was amazing so as Tom Cruise many of the acting is fantastic now don't get me wrong this movie is violent and gory because that's what vampire's are right? gothic, bloody vampire's this adaptation of Anne Rice's Novel is one of the best horror movies to date.

    I find this film to be a great disservice to the source material, regardless of Rice's praise of the adaptation. Having just read the book and never seen the film, I wanted to finally see it and I really wish I hadn't. Brad Pitt's ham-fisted performance vacillates between affected and wooden. I've never really like him in anything but this was particularly hard to watch. Tom Cruise's crazy energy seemed to work a bit better for the character of Lestat. Kirsten Dunst is really the only saving grace. As a 12-year-old she puts the performace of her co-stars to shame. She's the only good thing about his movie. The period sets looked phony to me but maybe that's more about how filmmaking has evolved since the mid 90s. I'm pretty baffled about all the praise for this film. It's a case study in style over substance.

    Okay. I recently watched this movie with my parents and we were so scared. Besides, I’m Christian and I normally don’t watch any horror movies given my religious nature. First of all, this movie gives the 1931 Halloween movie, Dracula, a BAD reputation. That one had no MPAA rating at all. Second, an R rating is common for any horror movie, including Scream. I’m sure I’d never go up to that rating.

    Blown away. Remember wanting to watch this when it first came out, back in 1994. Missed it, never got around to it until 24 years later, in 2018. Can't believe I missed out on it for nearly a quarter of a century. Yes, it's that good. And the book, the book is the perfect complement to the film. Watch this. Read that. You will not be disappointed.
