Description

A raucous musical comedy, set in the Wild West, Paint Your Wagon is punctuated with a classic Lerner and Loewe musical score (from the original Broadway production), including "They Call The Wind Maria" and "I Talk To Trees." The story of a goldmining boom town full of brawny men centers on the work-and-play partnership of Ben and Pardner (Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood) alongside the rebellious Elizabeth (Jean Seberg).

This has to be my all time favorite for Lee Marvin and one of my all time favorite movies period. We always have this on at parties and during the holidays especially. Just the funniest stuff ever written.

Harve Presnell singing "They Call the Wind Mariah" is the best part of this musical about prostitution as economic development. They took some beautiful music, incredible scenery and smeared it with mud.

This is the movie that killed Hollywood musicals! It is over the top corny... and that is what makes it so great! Good jokes and bad songs followed by good songs and bad jokes. A must see!

One of the best musicals of recent time. Great music and fun story. Not often you get a chance to have two macho movie greats (Marvin & Eastwood) put their reputations on the line and sing, what a treat! Enjoy this film with the family……have fun! VB Olney, Md.

But, with all due respect to previous posters, isn't the song called " they call the wind mariah" or have I been horribly duped my entire life!??!?

"Paint Your Wagon" is worth watching for the singing - Harve Presnell (the FIL in "Fargo") singing - really singing - "They Call the Wind Maria;" Clint Eastwood's voice is surprisingly pleasant when he gets to sing. And Lee Marvin, well.... um.... he's got gumption!

What can I say? Learner and Lowe are, in my opinion, the best collaborating team ever! While the movie strays a great distance from the stage version, it is very entertaining and retains such classics as "I Talk to the Trees" and "They call the Wind Maria", and "I was Born Under a Wanderin' Star". It is a must for any connoisseur of musical theatre.
