Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher star in THE GUARDIAN, the powerful, action-packed drama that takes you inside the never-before-seen world of the elite Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers. Reeling with grief in the wake of a mission gone tragically wrong, legendary Rescue Swimmer Ben Randall (Costner) is given a mission he doesn't want - training raw recruits. Once there, he knocks heads with cocky Jake Fischer (Kutcher), a swimming champ driven by a painful secret, who's more interested in breaking Ben's records than saving lives. But Ben also sees Jake has what it takes to be the best of the best. Filled with spectacular rescues in the lethal waters of the Bering Sea, THE GUARDIAN is a riveting and compelling story that dives straight into the heart and soul of real heroes, the unsung guardians of the sea.

  • Decent for rent movie

Rented it for 3.99 - worth it. Two hours of entertaining mix between training and military/rescue movie. I also think its a good way to pay respects to the Coast Guard and highlight the insane job of rescue in open seas that they do. Massive grain of salt in this movie is the reality - that this purely altruistic job is not paid well, wrecks people's families and leaves them with PTSD and Survivor Guilt in many cases. Aging Costner plays according to his level and skill - a sad tale of man who at his mid-40s is done with life. Kutcher is arguably the weakest spot - his acting skills are just not enough to play dramatic role in a convincing way. In my opinion the whole ending should have been omitted - it brought movie over the top and was completely uncalled for.
  • Overpriced movie

Any reason why this movie is a whopping $17.00 on iTunes?? I mean it’s a good movie, but so is American Sniper or alone Survivor..
  • Clancy Brown :(

I’m only writing this review because of Clancy Brown (one of my fave actors). I watched this movie only for him and he was in it for like 20 minutes then it was all training scenes with Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher which reminded me a lot of Annapolis (which was a good movie). A lot of well known faces in this along with Clancy, Costner and Kutcher (Brian Geraghty, John Heard from Home Alone etc).

  • Awesome movie on Cost Guards.

Very different movie; you always see movies of the military. Kevin Costner is such an awesome actor along with Ashton Kutcher. They did such a good job portraying Cost Guard swimmers; who risk their lives for others. Both men bring a sense of pride to the Cost Guard.

This is in my top 5 movies ever seen. Don’t really care what the tomato score is, cast is great, a must watch in my book. Makes me question rotten tomatoes...

ITunes has gotten greedy, movies cost too much to buy and rent
  • Much better than I expected

I'm not going to lie - I had very low expectations for this movie. Principally because I do not like Ashton Kutcher at all and generally avoid anything he's been in. I don't know if it's him of if it's the characters he plays, but I just don't care for him. But, I figured I'd give this film a shot. To my pleasant surprise, this was a very good film and Kutcher played a fairly decent role. Sure, the story is a bit cliched and the plot doesn't delvier a lot of surprises, but it was engaging nonetheless. Also, there were a few scenes that didn't seem to really fit and some characters could have used a little more development. Honestly, this movie seemed like a remake of Officer and a Gentlemen written by someone that's a big fan of Top Gun. But, given how many movies the Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force have, I guess it's only fair that the Coast Guard have their "recruiting" film. Anyway, I would say this movie is worth a shot. Don't expect any shocking plot twists or deep character studies, but it still delivers.
  • Worth it

Saw in theater, thought it was good. Can't shy away when on tv! Coast Guard deserves a movie this good or more! Good job Disney!

This movie is emotionally unforgettable, Kevin Costner & Ashton Kutcher knocked this one outta the park. The characters are so heartbreakingly real. Definitely recommend watching it over and over.
