Description

Hours after being released from prison for good behavior, Jesus Quintana (John Turturro) reunites with his best friend and fellow underachiever Petey (Bobby Cannavale). In the first in a series of rapidly escalating bad decisions, they steal a vintage car parked in front of an upscale salon and hit the road for a no-holds-barred joyride — until the car’s gun-toting owner (Jon Hamm) catches up with them, wounding Petey. Fleeing the scene with fiercely free-spirited shampooist Marie (Audrey Tautou), Jesus and Petey continue their adventure in a series of stolen cars, cementing their partnership with an epic petty-crime spree and a three-way romance. A darkly funny, irreverent and freewheeling road movie, The Jesus Rolls is written and directed by John Turturro and pays tribute to the classic French farce, Les Valseuses.

With so many reasons not to like this film, any hardcore TBL fans/obbessors will surely want to slit their wrists after this poor attempt of ridiculed plagiarism(s) that utterly fail. I seriosly want to charge the producers my Rental fee plus a the time I watched this for ruining what I was hoping to be a nice follow-on film and character development of Jesus along with his ilk. Nope, just a freaking mess from start to finish. Not even the might Jon Hamm could save this movie with his cameo's or Audrey Tautou perky boobs. The Walken appearance may be the only thing this film did right. The rest of delving debauchery, nope, horrible.

many disjointed scenes, very disjointed movie. didn't seem to know where it wanted to go. surprised someone approved this script and made it into a movie. it had potential because of the quirky jesus character from big lebowski had potential but it was wasted in this movie.

What is that “something”? This is the job of the director, the writer and actors to develop this. Unfortunately the chemistry of the me, myself and I (John Turturro) bomb out in this Beevis & Butt-head forced farce.
  • Good polyamorous friendly movie night choice.

I liked it. It had a familiar “Bandits” story backdrop with a polyamorous arc and fun twists. It definitely had it’s intense moments as well that kind of throws you a bit. Overall a solid choice if you wanted to have a movie night.

I can’t believe the script got this funded into making a movie. Being a big fan of The Big Lebowski, I had high but very reasonable hopes for this tie-in. Wow, this movie is not funny, not in the least, not even one chuckle. It feels close to a high school film project trying to mimic Napoleon Dynamite and failing miserably. 1 Star.
