Sam Mendes, the Oscar®-winning director of Skyfall, Spectre and American Beauty, brings his singular vision to this World War I epic. At the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield (Captain Fantastic’s George MacKay) and Blake (Game of Thrones' Dean-Charles Chapman) are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers—Blake's own brother among them.

Very, very slow Quit half way thru
  • Boring

Wow. If someone was trying to make a boring movie about WWI about characters you don’t care about who don’t do anything interesting then mission accomplished. If that’s what you want to watch then this is the movie for you.
  • Strangely overrated

Highly overrated, is my conclusion. The artifice of the simulated one-take hampers the proceedings, leading this viewer to look for the hidden cuts as a respite from desperately trying to empathize with the main characters, who are uninteresting and at one point terminally stupid. Big-name cameos swoop in with tantalizing memories of better films they've been in. It all feels quite empty and artificial.

  • Good but maybe not quite great

I liked it. Cinematography is obviously very impressive, but at times it doesn’t serve the scene very well, and you really notice it when it doesn’t fit. That’s the missing star for me, is the break from immersion when you notice that the gimmicky one-shot style doesn’t work well. In some scenes it’s quite brilliant though, like moving through the trenches. Acting is on point, story is pretty good, all in all it’s worth a watch and maybe a buy if you like the one shot gimmick.
