  • Not your typical nature doc - better.

This was far better and more than I expected. I expected a fly fishing film. I got a film about connecting with nature, about friendship and comradery, and about how to enjoy what makes you happy. Joe comes across as a remarkable guy - the everyman hero of the WW2 greatest generation, a teacher, funny, content with life, but also a true expert, a teacher and someone who cares about passing on what he knows to future generations. The cinematography is also fantastic - unlike most nature films, this is so much more intimate and narrow, but done in a way that still presents the grandeur of the natural world. Highly recommend.

Watched this with my wife who isn’t really into fly fishing and she loved it. Beautiful story about the human spirit and choosing to be young and happy

What a great film about a wonderful man. I took his fly tying and casting class at PENN State in 1985. Joe is a great teacher and motivator. He is always positive. This movie depicts him how he truly is every day.

I had the pleasure of meeting Joe in Lancaster back in March. I took his casting class. What a great teacher and story teller! This movie tells his story and most of the thing he’s had done. It couldn’t have been everything or the movie would have been a lot longer. It’s a movie you can watch over and over again. I watched it twice in BBC a few days already.

What an incredible documentary. Just purchased today and have already watched it three times. It’s more than just a movie about fishing. It’s about life, relationships, and nature. My wife is a non-angler and she enjoyed it as well. Well done!

Joe has an incredible story worth tuning in for. His love for teaching and conservation is evident in this film. He is living a full life using the gifts he has been given to teach others and to care for the world around him. You won’t be disappointed.
