Description

It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind... but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home.

This movie isn’t too bad. It isn’t the normal scary movies they make now. With special effects all over the place. I mean I don’t mind that cause it makes a movie watchable. This was a simple well put together movie. The acting was good. The plot was good. It was different. I am used too all the paranormal or weird things. This was a little different but I liked it. It was a nice change of pace. It is not real long but it kept my interest through out the whole movie. Didn’t get bored at all. Worth a watch at least once.

This is a really great film for families to watch together on Halloween! No sex or gore, and lots of creepy frights and scares. It’s a better produced version of Are You Afraid of the Dark or Goosebumps. If you liked any of those shows you will probably really like this movie.

It’s was okay, but not nearly as scary as reading the actual scary stories. The visuals were well done, but the plot failed to connect me to the characters.

The set up to the “scary stories” part of the film is painfully slow, in fact it takes nearly 30 minutes before we meet our first goblin, “Harold”. And once we do get to the “good part”, it’s so short that we’re left wondering “Is that it?”. I understand that they were shooting for a PG-13 rating, but I think a film with the word “scary” in its title could have got away with crafting a little more suspense into its script. God knows they put a lot of love and care into the sets and practical makeup and creature effects, it’s too bad the story and pacing weren’t given the same treatment.

This is great! Reminds me of ‘Goosebumps’ when I was a kid.

Outside of a few genuinly creepy scares, this thing was a total let down

This was a delightfully creepy movie. Not your typical horror movie (slasher chasing half naked girl) and that was a welcome change. Very well acted and superbly directed. Just a good old fashioned creep-fest. I'd recommend it for a fun family movie night around mid to late October.
