We Have Always Lived In the Castle

never enjoy movies where the characters are acting insane

This movie will make you mad

Don’t waste your time, this movie drags and drags and isn’t worth the time

I grew up reading Shirley Jackson's stories and have hoped "We Have Always Lived In The Castle" would be made into a movie, but of course so often movies made from books are not faithful to the book and don't work. This one works. Are there things I would have done differently? Yes. I would have used no music for the entire film and allowed there to be a lot of quiet spaces. But no matter. The casting is good, the adaptation is good, it's pretty darn close to the book, but most of all it captures some of the ambience of Jackson's writing. This is definitely worth watching.

Entire plot has been done before. Ailing rich guy sheltered from the world, random family member showing up trying to take it, blah blah.

This movie was funny mixed with witchcraft and the guy from 50 shades of gray Whew he is Fine and My Girl From American horror story did her thang, this movie is Great

Slow, tedious, patchy & dull.

The rough skeleton of Shirley Jackson's novel conveyed in flattened pathos, playfulness, and social commentary. But Taissa Farmiga and Crispin Glover are lovely to watch in these roles.
