Description

In 2017 the fittest athletes on Earth took on the unknown and unknowable during four of the most intense days of competition in CrossFit Games history. “The Redeemed and the Dominant: Fittest on Earth” captures all the drama as top athletes resembling chiseled Grecian gods descend on Madison, Wisconsin, to face a series of trials. Hercules faced 12; they take on 13. Emotions run high as a throng of Australian athletes rise to the top. By the end of the competition, some learn tough lessons—that all that glitters isn’t gold, or even bronze—and some learn that they’re even stronger than they realized. The best among them enter the pantheon of CrossFit giants and earn the right to call themselves the “Fittest on Earth.”

CrossFit circle-jerk that doesn't entertain or inform other than pander to the kool-aid drinkers.

I wish they would shine the light on more athletes, I don’t just want to hear from Fraser and the other top 5 athletes for the entire documentary

These documentaries keep retelling the same story. Yes, no one just gets lucky and happens to win the Games. There’s training, sacrifice, overcoming mental barriers, all of that is necessary in order to win. We get it. Add to that the fact that most viewers know the outcome of the events, and you’ve got a film with a repetitive storyline and little drama. Find a new theme or point of view. What’s it like to be a rookie and get dead last in the competition when you had hoped for more? What about vets or past champs that see the competition moving past their abilities? Great sport documentaries like Hoop Dreams transcend the sport and tell us something new and compelling about the people in the film and by extension, something about ourselves.

Really enjoyed this CrossFit film, every aspect showed an interesting and unique angle to some incredible storylines within a 2-hour time span. The film covers the story of the higher level competitors, the first time a podium athlete tested positive for PEDs, and the approach of the competition as the Games week unfolded. In specific, the film follows Tia-Clair Toomey, Mat Fraser, Kara Webb, and Sara Sigmundsdottir, and features interviews from a handful of others. CrossFit did a great job of keeping the spotlight on those who were and are moving the needle in popularity recently. It's not a "catch-all" round robin of interviews for all well-known athletes. It was awesome to see the interviews and the mentality of the athletes over the course of the Games week; ups and downs, emotional intensity and physicality pushed to its limit, it's an incredible grind we got a front row seat to. Highly recommend if you're interested in seeing several of these top-level athletes in their element.

I just watched it and my blood is still boiling. The women division is crazy. Super humans. The movie is well put together. They also don't shy away from the GARARD side story. Overall, if you are interested in sports and competition in general, this is a must watch!
