Not a comedy. Molly Shannon is the best part of the movie.
  • Just awful - zero stars

I was hoodwinked by the 14 favorble reviews. This movie was awful: not funny at all, stereo-typical characterizations, no growth in the characters. Please don't waste your time with this.

I saw this at Sundance and loved it. It hit close to home for me. It's a gut punch, and it's moving, and it's really funny. I laughed out loud, and I cried.

I knew Molly Shannon was funny, but I had no idea she had this depth of talent. I fell in love with this family as I watched the movie. Jesse Plemons was great in his role too. The movie makes you want to laugh one minute, then cry the next, then repeat the cycle throughout the film. Amazing. I enjoyed every minute including the final one. I'm proud to have this movie as part of my library so I can watch it again.

This movie is absolutely lovely! I've seen it 6 times already if that tells you anything. If you love comedy, watch it. If you love drama, watch it -- with kleenex.
  • An Amazing Performance

by Molly Shannon who is SUPERB as the mother Joanne. Like Robin Williams, she shows us that she is capable of both comedy AND high drama. Jesse Plemons is very good as the dutiful son; he makes me think that perhaps he is the next Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Also kudos, to the young boy in the film, who's name I didn't catch, who gives an absolutly FEARLESS performance as a young gay boy doing a lip-sync and dance number that is so outrageous, you will not soon forget it! A very moving and funny film.

Funny, heartbreaking and unforgettable movie! Powerhouse acting by Molly Shannon and Jesse Plemmons. Excellent writing and delicate directing that inspires real life in every character that appears on screen. Do not miss this one!

Superb acting by the entire cast, but especially Molly Shannon and Jesse Plemons. A touching and realistic story, sprinkled with a few genius comedic scenes.

I was lucky enough to see this in the theater and it was astonishing. Molly Shannon and Jesse Plemons are incredible, and the supporting cast is flawless. It feels true and honest in a way few movies do. I've never cried and laughed so much in a single movie, but that's what life really is -- it's not comedy or drama, it's everything together all at once.
